April Ross

April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball players who have won medals in more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian who will be joining the team in Tokyo. Ross is hoping to secure the Olympic the first medal of gold, but she's also hoping to earn greater. At 39, it may be her last shot. But she's convinced that the top awards are at hand. Ross declared on NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and if we just play well I believe we can win the gold medal." Also, I am going put my faith in a touch of luck. Ross was born August 22, 1982, at Costa Mesa California. She lived there with her family. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of activities while at Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler, she competed in basketball, indoor volleyball and track. In the last sport she was clearly the standout. As per her biography in high school, she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and setter (outside blocker). To honor her achievements she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player 1999. She also captured the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Although Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple from 2017 onward, the former was already an established player on the beach scene prior to their team. In reality, she was a winner of multiple major tournaments with two different partners, one of which is an icon of volleyball. From 2007 until 2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the international arena, taking home the 2009 World Championship with each other. This duo went into winning a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends which took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, took each other to take home the gold. As fate would have it Ross became Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The duo were able to win the beach volleyball bronze at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC in her high school days. This was years before Ross went to the beach, and then became a professional. Ross had an impressive run through the NCAA tournament. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year in the year 2000, a young freshman. The team also saw her help in helping the Trojans reach the Final Four. The second season of her career she was devastated by a personal loss, yet earned the distinction of being an All-American. The last two years with the Trojans' program the team was led to success by winning two successive national titles. For her part Ross established her status in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the most outstanding female volleyball players at colleges across the country. Ross studied the study of international relations in USC. Margie Ross did not see her daughter reach the top of beach volleyball. Ross's mother died of cancer of the breast when she was a sophomore in USC. Ross is still awed by her late parent. Margie is a constant source of inspiration for her both in and out of the water.
